AVID Guest Speaker
Haley Picon’s sister-in-law, Dina Maris, came to speak to AVID students in grades 10 and 11. Dina shared her journey through High School and her time at the University of Central Florida. She also gave special tips and pointers to our Titans on their college journey. Special thanks to Haley Picon and her sister-in-law!
Math in Healthcare
Mr. Knight was a guest lecturer in Mrs. Ramirez’s first-period class. He gave an insightful demonstration of the vital connection between mathematics and health. His engaging presentation highlighted how numbers can play a critical role in saving lives and the significance of mathematics in health care. Thank you, Mr. Knight.
College Preparedness in AVID
The AVID elective class helps students build skills for college preparedness. Titan 11th graders are preparing for college study groups, researching colleges and majors, and adding healthy eating to dorm life. This month's edition of healthy dorm room eating featured spring rolls. Joy Yang and Haley Picon shared their simple recipe for a healthy snack that can easily be made in a dorm room kitchenette. Students rolled their spring rolls with lean protein, crisp veggies, fragrant cilantro, and a dash of soy sauce. Titans will be able to take Odyssey's green and healthy school mission with them wherever they go!
GATEway Gifted
A successful entrepreneur and Shark Tank contestant, Meghan Wolfgram, shared her journey with middle and high school GATEway students. Meghan joined us for an inspiring talk where she discussed the challenges, triumphs, and lessons learned in the Shark Tank experience and world of business. Musical Theater
This past weekend, the drama department wowed audiences with three "sold-out" performances of Bad Auditions by Bad Actors. With standing room only for all three shows, the production highlighted Odyssey students' creativity and initiative. The all-student cast and crew transformed Mr. Stout’s classroom into an intimate black box theater, crafting every aspect of the performance themselves. The audience left with rave reviews, applauding both the humor and the impressive effort behind the scenes. Congratulations to everyone involved for showcasing the hard work and dedication of our Titans!
AVID in Orlando
On Friday, Nov 15, 2024, AVID students in grades 6-11 traveled to the Kia Center in Orlando for a day full of adventure. AVID students from all over Florida engaged in games and collaborative activities attended a college fair, and heard from exceptional people in various jobs in the Magic organization. Our Titans were amazed at how many different career clusters were represented in the hundreds of employees working at the Kia Center. Some advice students were given about life as an adult included taking opportunities, learning about lots of new things, being open to new experiences, creating good relationships everywhere you go, networking and building your professional network, being open to change, and building relationships with the community and unite languages. Students were advised to do the following in their AVID classes: complete your Tutorial Request Forms, use your planner, build social skills in the safety of your AVID family, and always meet new people. Titans learned how to create success as adults, about different colleges and careers, and watched the Magic win over the 76ers.
