Health and Wellness News

Every month we publish a menu and on the back of the menu we provide updates and information on our Natural Health and Wellness programs.  We hope you will join with us as we celebrate Health and Wellness and provide our progress in the areas of organic agriculture, nutrition, and natural health.  Our Wellness meetings occur monthly and focus on several different areas:  (1) Nutrition/Natural Health and Organic Agriculture, (2) Creating a positive Culture for Learning and supporting the Mental Health of our Students and Staff, (3) and Fitness and Athletics.  Also, we have within our newsletter a request that our families send us pictures of themselves enjoying outdoor activities together.  Our Health and Wellness newsletter is HERE (and at the bottom of this page).  We hope you enjoy it!

FIU Field Trip

Wednesday Oct 2 Titans in AVID, GATEway and 11th and 12th graders traveled to Florida International University for a campus tour. Students walked the campus, learned what made the school special. FIU is the number 2 school in the world for international business, the 3rd best school in Florida for architecture, and the law students are lucky because FIU law students have the highest pass rate of the bar at 82%.

FAU Field Trip

The day continued with our group walking the breezeways of Florida Atlantic University. Two of our chaperones have attended FAU so they could give us real life information.  Students learned that FAU has a great study abroad program, a strong college of business and their men's basketball team went to the final four in last years March Madness tournament. They are one of the most affordable universities in the US and they require each student to take a class where they learn about stock market trades. 21% of Owls are in a sorority or fraternity. Class sizes range from 20-40 students.  FAU accepts Common App and requires students to take either ACT or SAT.  And they use Canvas so Titans are preparing for college life right at Odyssey.

Thank You Chaperones!

TAMIQUE Ramirez came on the 13 hour trip, shepherded 10 amazing Titans and walked over 16,000 steps.  Dezzie Gowans showered us with much needed refreshments that we had throughout the day. It is parents like these that strengthen the Titan community!  One thousand thank yous!

Yearbook

Commercial Art students are starting to design the Titan 2025 Yearbook. If you would like to contribute photos or ideas feel free to stop by room 242 and speak to Mrs. Oakes. If you want to send in pictures of you and your friends you can email oakesj@odysseycharterschool.com.  Sales information will be posted over the next month so stay tuned. We did get a new yearbook supplier this year and we are looking forward to bringing you a great book this spring. If you didn't pick up your book from last year or wish to purchase one, stop by the front office.

GATEway Shark Tank

Our middle and high school GATEway elective students are diving into the world of entrepreneurship with an exciting unit inspired by Shark Tank.  Students have been diving into business development, teamwork, and creative problem-solving.  They are currently developing their own product ideas, marketing plans and pitch to share their innovations to a panel of "sharks". This engaging, hands-on experience is fostering leadership, critical thinking, and public speaking skills, preparing our future entrepreneurs for real-world challenges. Stay tuned for the final presentations!

AVID Note Taking

The AVID students are perfecting the note taking process to deepen their learning from all classes. Check out their amazing examples of what notes look like when students have gone through the 5 phases of note taking!
