Advanced ELA
Students in Marie Theodore-Pharel's class are taking notes for authentic purposes in 8th Adv ELA. Students are creating double entry journals to analyze Rhetorical Devices while reading their class novel. These notes help deeply analyze the story and to support deep thinking on assessments since they can use tier notes on tests. Well done students!
Mr. Horsley's Class
This week in Mr. Horsley’s 6th grade ELA class students were recording thoughts and ideas while reading the class novel. Focused note taking is a high yield strategy in all classes. In AVID we follow the 5 phases of Focused Notes to teach study skills.
Peer Counseling
In our Peer Counseling class, students recently engaged in a powerful exercise called the "Concentric Circle on Feelings." This activity allowed participants to explore and share their emotions in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Students formed two circles, with the inner circle rotating to engage in one-on-one discussions with peers about topics like stress, happiness, and empathy. The exercise not only encouraged emotional awareness but also strengthened connections between classmates, fostering a deeper sense of community and understanding.
Orchestra
Mr. Hoffman's chamber orchestra is working on a piece called "God Rest Ye Winter Gentlemen". They will be having an Autumn performance with the other orchestras and Mr. Stout's keyboard class on December 6th at 6:00 P.M. in the gym. Admission is free.
Title 1 Night
On Wednesday night, we hosted a successful Title 1 Parent Information Night. Thank you to all who attended and to all the students who volunteered their time to showcase our offerings. During the event, parents and guardians learned about the various programs and resources available to support student learning. We will be making a video for those who were unable to attend in person.
Together, we can ensure that every child reaches their full potential!
College Preparedness in AVID
The AVID elective class helps students build skills for college preparedness. Titan 11th graders are preparing for college study groups, researching colleges and majors, and adding healthy eating to dorm life.
This month's edition of healthy dorm room eating featured spring rolls. Joy Yang and Haley Picon shared their simple recipe for a healthy snack that can easily be made in a dorm room kitchenette. Students rolled their spring rolls with lean protein, crisp veggies, fragrant cilantro, and a dash of soy sauce. Titans will be able to take Odyssey's green and healthy school mission with them wherever they go!
News from the Athletics Department
Congratulations to Jendaya Weston. This Titan Senior and Athletic Scholar received an offer letter to play volleyball and attend Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida.
