WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE ODYSSEY JR/SR CAMPUS?
AVID Field Trip
Titan AVID Scholars went on a field trip to the Amway Center in Orlando last Friday. They learned from various business professionals in the NBA industry and three amazing AVID Alumni! Two of our student leaders were nominated to participate in competitive games on the official ORLANDO MAGIC COURT vs. other AVID students from across Florida! Bryan Shirley and Reese Florin dominated the floor in the Tic-Tac-Toe Layup Challenge and Shooting for Connect 4 Challenge! After the Q&A, students met with admissions counselors from several colleges around the US. They watched the Orlando Magic compete against the Washington Wizards, making history with their record-breaking 9th-game win streak! It was a fantastic trip making memories, strengthening our AVID family, and learning about college and careers in the real world! Special shout out to Mr. Guevara & Mrs. Mitchell, along with our parent volunteers, Mrs. Ayers & Mrs. Herasme, for spending their entire day with us!
Winter Concert and Art Show
Beautiful sounds of the season were enjoyed by all who attended the Titan Band Winter Concert on Thursday, December 7th. These talented musicians worked hard to bring a great show and they delivered. Outside on the sidewalk, parents and students were also entertained while viewing amazing visual art created by students in Mrs. Stewart's and Mrs. Reilly's art classes.
Don't forget to attend Mr. Hoffmans's and Mr. Stout's musical concert next Thursday to hear the orchestra and keyboarding classes play their holiday selections.
6th Grade Parent Night
6th grade Parent Night was held in the cafe on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. The 6th-grade team warmly welcomed parents and provided a debrief of the first semester of middle school. Topics included tips for exams, support for struggling students, communication, expectations for semester 2, and assessments that end the year. Thank you, Odyssey parents, for joining us in our mission to support your student's well-rounded growth.
Success Saturday Reading
Great Job to Pharel’s students today. During Success Saturday students completed an extra credit project discussing books they are reading outside of school. Students used ELA vocabulary describing theme, conflict protagonists and plot of their books while trying to convince other students to choose their books as their next read. Excellent work, Mrs. Pharel, for encouraging students to love reading and find new books in which to get lost.
Spelling Bee
Congrats to 8th grade spelling expert, Jaylen Jones, for winning the spelling bee on Thursday, Dec 7th! The winning word was, “insufferable”. The following students participated in the qualifying rounds: Dominque Dumond, Gallagher Davies, Gavin Tarallo, Kalina Larsen, Cameron Jackson, Jett Cox, Jayden Jones, Joleigh Smith, Christian Mahurin and Tristan German. There were 8 fiery rounds of challenging word. The momentum was great.

Robotics
Don't miss the Robotics FIRST Tech Challenge on Saturday, Dec 9th.
Each year, our students design, build, test and program a robot that must perform a series of tasks to earn points. This year the robot must work together with an Alliance Partner to move a hexagon shaped “pixel” to score points. Additional points can be scored by programming the robot to hang from a bar and even launch a paper airplane to reach certain targets.
Odyssey’s Robotics team is lead by head coach Mark Zelonski and co-coach Richard Grimaldi.
